Hiring
What it is: workers do chores in your warehouse so you do not have to.
How to open it: tablet, Staff app. It has two tabs: Hire and Team. The app opens on Team. With nobody employed it says "No one on the team yet" and "Hire your first worker to get started.", with a button that takes you to the candidates.
- Open the Hire tab and look at the candidates. Each card shows a portrait, a name, a Motivation bar and the Daily salary you would pay.
- The card shows a line "Requires level {0}", your company level. It is green when you meet it and red when you do not. While a requirement fails, Hire is disabled.
- Press Hire. A notice says "Hired: {name}" and gives you a short Undo.
The first hire needs both a company level and a warehouse level. The tablet tells you what is missing.
How many workers
Staff slots come from the warehouse level. Hiring opens at warehouse level 2, and more slots open at levels 4, 6 and 8. Levels in between and above 8 add no slot. When the team is full, you see "Staff full ({0}/{1})". While another slot is still to come, the message also names the warehouse level that adds it. At the top, only the count is shown.
If everybody is hired, the tab says "No candidates right now" and "Everyone available has already been hired."
Tip: upgrade the warehouse to grow the team. Workers are not all alike: they differ in how fast they walk and work.
Tasks
A new worker starts as Free. Open the Team tab (columns Name, Task, Status, Motivation), pick a worker ("Select a worker to see their details.") and choose a task. Every task is available from the first hire.
| Task | What the worker does |
|---|---|
| Free | Does whatever is open: courier rounds first, then packing and stocking in turns, and picks up rubbish from the warehouse floor if there is nothing to stock. |
| Shelves | Brings boxes to the shelves and keeps them stocked. |
| Packing | Gathers the products for an order, then takes the filled box to a packing table for taping and labelling. |
| Courier | Takes ready In-City boxes out on a round. |
Good to know:
- A packer takes the oldest pending order that your stock can fill completely. An older order that is blocked by missing stock is skipped. When nothing can be packed, the worker tells you what the oldest order needs and tries again.
- A packer can also tell you to deliver your current In-City orders first when no customer spot is free.
- Changing a task does not interrupt a job the worker is already doing.
- Workers can work through the night.
- A courier that is out on a round cannot change task until it is back: "Out on a round. You can change the task when they are back."
- Besides delivering, a courier that cannot reach some boxes can pack available orders for a while.
Status, vacation, motivation and salary
The status chip shows what a worker is doing: Working, Idle, Unpaid, On vacation, On a round or Burnt out. Select a worker to read a sentence about it, for example "Working as usual." or "Out delivering: on the map, not in the warehouse." The panel also shows motivation as a percentage with a bar and the Daily salary. A courier out on the map is faded in the list with the line "Out on the map".
- Unpaid: "Waiting to be paid, so pay them to keep them working." An unpaid worker takes no new work.
- Burnt out: the worker is not working. The tablet describes it as low motivation.
- Send on vacation: pick the Vacation length with the chips. The panel counts down ("On vacation: {0} left.") and the worker comes back on their own.
- Pay: the salary is a bill. You can pay it in the Staff app or in Finance, Payments, it is the same bill.
- Fire: you hold the button to confirm.
Rehiring
A fired worker shows up among the candidates again, with the usual level and slot checks. When you rehire them, their task is reset to Free and any vacation ends.
Aim and adjust
Aim at a worker in the world and press T to open their settings.
Tips
- Pay salaries on time so nobody sits idle as Unpaid.
- Match the tasks to your day: shelves for stocking, packing for orders, courier once boxes are ready for In-City.
- Check the Motivation column now and then.
- Use Free workers if you want a bit of everything.
