The Finance app
How to open it: tablet, Finance. It has a Finance Summary, Payments, Report and a Bank page. Opening the Bank page needs a registered company. Without one the tablet says: "You have no commercial registration yet. Register a company first."
The Bank page on the tablet shows your numbers. Deposits, withdrawals and loans are made at the bank counter.
The bank counter
What it is: the bank keeps your savings and gives loans.
How to open it: use the bank counter. It has four tabs: Account, Deposit, Withdraw and Loan. The counter opens on Account. On a gamepad the triggers cycle through the tabs.
- Account shows Cash on hand, Deposited Money, your locked collateral, the Installments due and the Installments left of a running loan.
- Deposit ("Deposit Money"): type the amount you want to move into the bank. A preview shows Cash after and Deposit after before you confirm. Max moves all your cash, including cents. If you ask for too much, the screen says "You don't have that much cash."
- Withdraw ("Withdraw Money"): the same in the other direction. Max takes out the whole available deposit at once. If you ask for too much, it says "Your deposit is not that high."
- Typed amounts are whole currency units and cannot go above what you have. A zero amount cannot be confirmed. After you confirm, the field is cleared.
Interest
Money in your deposit earns interest every game day, once the deposit is at or above a minimum amount. The Deposit tab shows that minimum and the daily rate ("Money deposited over {0} earns interest at a daily rate of {1}."). Interest is added to the deposit, so it earns interest itself later. Money held as loan collateral earns no interest. Sleeping does not pay you for every period you skipped, and loading a save does not pay interest twice.
Tip: money in your pocket does not grow, money in the bank does.
Loans
What it is: a loan gives you cash now and you pay it back in installments.
How to take one: open the Loan tab.
- Type the Collateral Amount from your deposit. The bank works out the loan amount it offers for it. A loan offer exists even with a collateral of zero, and more collateral raises the offer.
- Pick the number of installments (Loan Installments, shown as "{0} installments"). The summary shows the daily payment and the total repayment. A longer repayment means a bigger total.
- If your deposit does not cover the collateral, the screen says "Your deposit doesn't cover this collateral."
- Confirm with Use a Loan. You hold the button to confirm. Closing the page while you hold cancels it.
The collateral leaves your available deposit and stays locked. When the contract ends, whatever collateral is left goes back to your deposit.
Only one loan can run at a time: "Pay off your current loan before taking a new one." Even after the last installment has been billed, an unpaid loan bill keeps the loan active.
Paying a loan
One installment is billed at every day change. On Account you see "Installments due" and, before one is due, "You have a running loan. Its installments appear here when due." The loan table shows each bill or future installment with Payment, Amount and Status, plus the subtotals "Bills due ({0})" and "Remaining ({0})". Paid bills disappear from the list. Press Pay installment to pay one due bill per press. The button is disabled when nothing is due, so you cannot pay ahead with it. With no loan, the tab says "You don't have any loan payments."
Late installments
At the day change, a late installment is paid from your locked collateral first, in the order of the bills, and you get the notice "Your locked collateral paid {0} of your late loan installments." If the collateral is not enough, only part is paid and the rest stays late (which still blocks a new loan). A bill that is still late can then be paid from your cash if you can afford all of it.
Bills
What it is: your recurring costs, like staff salaries and loan installments, arrive as bills.
How to open it: tablet, Finance, Payments. You see Total due and the counts of Waiting and Delayed bills. The list shows Bill, Period and Status.
- Pick a bill to see the company name, the amount, the status and how much of the payment period has passed.
- Pay it. A toast tells you what was paid. Salaries can also be paid from the Staff app with Pay, it is the same bill.
- Pay All pays the whole list at once. It only works if your cash covers the whole total, otherwise nothing is paid.
Every bill has a payment period. When a bill is marked delayed, your reputation drops at the day change for as long as it stays unpaid. At the same moment, bills that your remaining cash can fully cover are collected for you and you get a notice. Bills you cannot afford stay overdue.
Tip: an empty list means there is nothing to pay. New bills show up when they are due.
Daily report
What it is: a record of your money by day.
How to open it: tablet, Finance, Report. It shows Total income, Total expense and Net (income minus expense) for the last days, with a chart and a table by day. The report for the current day is filled in as your cash changes during the day, so early in the day it may still look empty.
Tips
- Keep some cash for bills before you spend on stock.
- Take a loan only when the money earns more than it costs, and keep your deposit above the interest minimum.
- Use Pay All when you have the cash, it keeps reputation safe.
- Read the report to find days where costs jump.
- A paid loan frees the loan slot.
