The shop: orders, shelves, products and prices

How orders reach you, how products get from boxes to shelves, how prices work and what decides whether orders come in. Biztopia is an online business: sales run through orders. You fill each order's box from your own shelves and send it off.

How a sale works

  1. A customer order appears in the Orders app on your tablet.
  2. You accept it. The box comes straight to your hand.
  3. You fill the box from your shelves, one marked product at a time.
  4. You put the full box on the packing table, click the tape roll that matches the order's cargo type, then click the label printer.
  5. You send the box using the order's delivery method. For cargo, take it to the cargo store, put it on the pallet and let the clerk send it.
  6. When the delivery is complete, payment arrives on its own.

Money goes to the company account (see Finance on the tablet), not into a till. Safekeeping, which holds items for you, is a different thing; see the Controls page.

Shelf types

  • Standard shelves: for products that are not food.
  • Coolers: for food products only. If you try anything else the game says "Only food products can go on cooler shelves".
  • Display shelves: two-sided shelves.

Bigger shelves and coolers unlock as your level rises. The Shops app shows what is locked and why. If you bought food, make sure you have a cooler shelf first.

Placing a shelf

  1. Open Shops on your tablet and select the warehouse shop. Order the shelf.
  2. Place it on the warehouse floor. If the spot is not valid (in the air, wrong surface, blocked or in front of the door) the placement ghost turns red.
  3. Rotate the shelf with the mouse wheel before you place it.
  4. Leave paths open so you and your workers can pass. A shelf that cuts a worker's path may not place.

Shelf settings

Look at a shelf and press T to open Shelf settings. Here you choose which product categories the shelf accepts. A standard shelf cannot be set to food. A shelf also tells you when it is full ("Shelf is full").

Putting products on shelves

  1. Grab the delivery boxes (F) and carry them inside.
  2. Unpack with C, then place the products on the shelf with the left mouse button.
  3. Use the hotbar to pick what is in your hand (1 to 9, mouse wheel).

The right mouse button takes a product back from a shelf. Hold the button to take several in a row until the shelf is empty or your hands are full. G drops what you hold. If a product does not fit the shelf the game says "This product doesn't fit this shelf". If you give a worker the Shelves task, they fill shelves too.

Prices and listing

Open the tablet, go to Inventory, pick a product and set its Sale price. Press Save to apply it. The tablet shows Buying cost, Cargo cost, Sale rate, Popularity and Profitability.

  • A price that is too high brings no orders.
  • A price at or below buying cost plus cargo cost leaves no profit.
  • The Listing switch decides whether a product is for sale at all. Having it on a shelf is not enough.

What brings orders

Whether an order comes for a product depends on several things:

  • Price. Lower prices make orders more likely.
  • Advertising. At the Marketing Agency you plan a campaign for a product category. One campaign can run per category.
  • Popularity. It shows in Inventory, changes over time and with the category's trend, and a popular product sells more.
  • Stock and listing. A product with no stock is not picked for new orders, and an unlisted product is not sold.
  • Order limit. If too many orders are already waiting (the limit is 20), new ones stop coming until you clear some.
  • Variety. Research in R&D opens new product categories, so there is more to sell.

Reputation grows when deliveries and bill payments earn XP, and late payments reduce it.

If orders stop

  1. Is the product listed and in stock?
  2. Did you run an ad for its category (the tutorial asks for one)?
  3. Are too many orders waiting? Clear the queue.
  4. Is the price too high? Lower it.

Cleaning

Trash on the floor is picked up and thrown into the trash can. Order the trash can early; the tutorial asks for it too.

Tips

  • Check Orders to see what is missing, then use Add missing to basket to restock fast.
  • Unpack delivery boxes and put their products on shelves instead of leaving boxes around.
  • Keep paths between shelves open.
  • If a price feels wrong, look at Profitability before you change it.
