Major Update: The Museum is here, 80 mystery artifacts await in the city
Hi everyone! Biztopia's first big content update since Early Access launch is live: the Museum.
Found your museum
- Once you reach Level 15, head to the company registration office in the city and found your own museum at the registration desk. The museum is second on the list, and founding it costs $2,000.
- The museum doors open the moment you found it. The sign shows your company's name and logo, and it lights up at night. If you change your name, logo or color, the sign changes too.
- The curator greets you at the door. Your first conversation with them starts a short museum tutorial.
80 mystery boxes around the city
- We hid 80 mystery boxes all over the city. You can start searching the moment you found the museum. As you get closer, a box glows and makes a sound.
- The new museum page on your tablet shows how many boxes you've found in each area. The curator also drops a hint now and then.
- A few boxes lie at the bottom of the shallow water along the shore. Watch your breath.
A new artifact in every box
- When you aim at a box on the street, it gets a white outline, and you pick it up with left click.
- Boxes and artifacts sit in their own slots in your inventory, and each box takes its own slot. If your inventory is full, nothing is lost: the extras wait for you with the curator.
- Bring the box to the museum and the curator opens it. Every box holds a new artifact you haven't found before. No duplicates: 80 boxes, all 80 artifacts.
- Boxes can't be sold or bought. Opening them is free.
- Every artifact has its own name, rarity, a short story and its own spot in the hall.
- While you're holding an artifact, an arrow in the hall leads you to its spot. At the empty spot you can preview how the artifact will stand, and you can also choose "Place artifact" through the display case glass. "Mark its place" on the tablet lights up the artifact's spot in the hall.
- You earn XP when you place an artifact in its spot. Rarer artifacts give more XP.
Visitors and ticket income
- Every artifact you put in the hall raises the museum's popularity and brings in more visitors.
- You set the price of single and double tickets. Raise the price too high and fewer visitors come.
- Ticket income builds up at the museum. Whenever you like, collect it from the curator or at the ticket desk and move it to your company account.
- Talk to the ticket clerk with E to see the day's ticket count and how much has built up in the till.
- Visitors line up at the door side of the ticket desk, leaving the middle spot free for you.
- The museum has a daily rent of $100 and an upkeep cost that grows with the number of artifacts in the hall ($5 to $300). Both show up as separate rows in Payments and start once the first full day after founding ends.
- The museum closes in the evening. At closing you get the day's report, and you can see the last 7 days on the tablet.
Milestones and achievements
- There's a celebration at the museum at 20, 40, 60 and 80 artifacts. At 80 artifacts, a "Complete Collection" plaque arrives in the hall.
- 7 new Steam achievements: found the museum, first artifact, 20, 40 and 60 artifacts, complete collection and first legendary artifact.
Co-op
- In co-op, everyone sees the same museum and the same boxes. Whoever grabs a box first gets it, and the box disappears from everyone's world.
Saves
- Your old saves open just as they were. The museum shows as not founded yet; if you're Level 15, you can found it right away.
Today's fixes
- Fixed a crash that could happen while using the tablet.
- Co-op: items your friend is holding are now kept in the host's save and no longer vanish when you reopen the game.
- Saves: fixed some products going missing from the world after loading a save.
- The packing worker no longer reaches into a fenced shelf from outside.
- Confirming an order when there's no free spot for the customer to wait no longer gives you an empty box.
- Lying down on and getting up from sun loungers is smoother.
- The warehouse ceiling lamps and wall sconces have new colors.
- The hold prompt now sits in the middle of the button and no longer spills outside it.
- The tree blocking the road between the warehouse and the museum has been removed.
- The bridges to the west island can now be crossed, and traffic now flows on the island's roads too.
- If you fall into the crane areas at the harbor, you can now climb out using the steps.
Also in this update
We've released 8 Daily Updates since launch. All their notes are in the Events tab; here are the highlights:
- Your web profile: every store has its own page on biztopiagame.com. Your products, prices and stock update along with the game.
- Spend time at home: sit on chairs and armchairs, turn on the lamp and change TV channels. Stretch out on sun loungers at the beach and by the pond.
- Two people in the same vehicle in co-op: one drives, the other rides in the passenger seat.
- Traffic density setting: Low, Normal or High.
- The ATM stock market screen has been redesigned: every buy and sell, average cost and profit/loss.
- Controller: the main menu and settings are easy to navigate with a controller.
- City: buses and big trucks are back in traffic with their drivers and passengers. At night, cars turn on their headlights and brake lights.
- Warehouse: couriers carry boxes one at a time, lane lights show parking and loading status, and workers no longer get stuck at drop-off points.
- You can paint the warehouse roof, shutters and doors. Company names can now be up to 32 characters.
- On top of that, dozens of bug fixes: boxes in vehicle cargo beds, stuck workers, text overflowing at 720p and in longer languages, warehouse trash and more.
What's next
- The next big update will be house rentals. You may remember that in the Daily Updates we added interactions with home furniture like sitting and watching TV; we'll be adding more home furniture.
- You'll be able to buy houses outside the city and then rent them out to customers. How well the furniture is arranged and whether the house is fully furnished will raise its chances of being rented.
- Meanwhile, the daily updates keep coming.
To play together in co-op, everyone needs to be on the same game version, so make sure you both have the update before playing with a friend.
Note: There may still be a few small issues on the west island's roads. We'll finish these off with Daily Updates in the coming days. If you spot a problem too, keep letting us know on Discord or in the Steam discussions. Thanks!
